Highland 3 Day Report 2015

Work on the preparation of this event started with the fist reconnoitre way back in October 2014, with many more trips by Mike Raven to get the route together, which included the usual driving tests and navigational sections, for the keener motorist.

Day Zero started from The Shieldhill Castle Hotel, nestling in the hills just north of Biggar, and only 28 miles from the Forrestburn sprint and hillclimb course, where the first test took place. Twenty Two cars took part in this well established event which then wound it’s way through the Carron Valley, The Trossachs, Loch Tay to The Royal Dunkeld Hotel. Then it’s onwards ever onwards through the Cairngorms, Loch Ness to The Ballachulish Hotel for a night halt.

All cars away by 8.30am the following day so they could reach the Skye Ferry, then over the sea to Skye to return to the mainland via
the Skye Bridge. Some hardy souls took the route over Applecross, before reaching the night halt at Inverness.

Day three took the participants through Culloden, Grantown on Spey, Blairgowrie to Dunkeld and finally to the Splendid Dunblayne Hydro. A couple of drinks in the bar, dinner and a few speeches, with H3D memento’s handed out, then the music with a ceilidh for those with the energy.

An awful lot of work goes into this event, and as usual thanks to the marshals and navigation and test organisers.

Next years dates are to run from 21st September if you include day zero, with the regs due out in December.
